Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen, who plays backstabbing irritant turned humbled saviour Theon Greyjoy on HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones, has officially been announced as being cast in Shane Black’s reboot of The Predator.
Alfie Allen has been making quite the name for himself, although he does tend to generally be typecast as the ‘arsehole’ of the TV or Movie he’s in (see Game of Thrones and John Wick). Regardless, the actor is a genuine talent.
According to reports, Allen is set to play an ex-Marine who teams up with several of the other casts members (called ‘outsiders’), in a setting that takes them out of the jungle and into suburbia. Interesting.
Allen joins The Predator reboot, which began shooting Monday in Vancouver, alongside other notable actors such as Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Jacob Tremblay, Trevante Rhodes, Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Jane.
Unfortunately, one thing the cast seems to lack is any sort of body builders. The original movie was made up of muscle-clad marines, lead by Arnold Schwarzenegger, which only helped cement its place as a pop culture action classic from its era.
That point aside, the cast seems pretty well rounded regardless as it has its lead (Boyd Holbrook), its kick ass female (Olivia Munn), its funny man (Keegan-Michael Key) and now its annoying possible backstabber in Alfie Allen.
The reboot, that is co-written by the talented Shane Black (see the Lethal Weapons series and last years hit The Nice Guys), and with Fred Dekker. Shane Black also, thankfully, fills the directors seat for The Predator reboot.
With shooting underway and the cast seemingly complete, I’m looking forward to this reboot even though it’s just another endless rehash in an era where Hollywood has stopped being innovative and looked to the past for lazy guidance. However, Shane Black has a certain action-comedic style that has on the whole worked very well, so I for one am actually looking forward to this movie. Only time will tell.
